  The Site

The site for our Student Co-op is 101 Cameron Ave located within the Ottawa South area; just blocks from Carleton University making it an ideal site for student housing. It has been home to students for many years and the current structure is displaying serious signs of age. With the Cameron Student Co-op the housing stock within the area is not only maintained, but the number of available rental rooms is increased. The aesthetic appearance of the new Co-op improves the environment of the street as its appearance is far superior than the present dwelling. The size of the Co-op, being two stories plus a roof, respects the height of the surrounding homes allowing to blend into the street's fabric. As student housing it maintains the diversity of age within the neighbourhood. Many of the previously mentioned points are respects the desires of the City of Ottawa as outlined within their Official Plan.

There are many highlights with the Co-op, especially the focus on communal space including the kitchen, the dining room and the living room. The interaction between levels is achieved using punctures through the floor planes allowing people to look into the previously mentioned main gathering spaces. The home's design fosters an increased sense of community improving the working and living atmosphere reducing stress levels and increasing occupants' enjoyment of life. Other highlights include:

-large kitchen
-large bedrooms
-bathroom access from all eight rooms
-walk-in closets in every room
-workshop space in the lower level
-game room in the lower level
-large covered front porch (perfect for barbecues)
